Race List

A list of all official Races from the Palladium Fantasy line and which book they're located in. This is a list only. It does not provide descriptions or stats. Trying to decide on the best way to handle this list has been a long ongoing project for me. I've finally decided to include everything, including Monsters and Animals even if they're not listed as a playable option. The details for the main three categories are as follows:

Playable: These are declared within the book, or by omission, to be options for Player Characters. This is further divided into "Character Classes" (or "C.C."), races which start with a pre-determined Character Class and cannot select an O.C.C. (only gaining ability and skills through their racial write-up), and "Giant," which is useful for determining weapon size. Giant in this case is determined by races that can average 8 ft (2.4 m) or higher. This means Coyles, who can reach up to 8 ft (2.4 m) but average at only 7 ft (2.1 m) are NOT included as Giant. I used the list on page 269 for the basis of this determination.

Monster: Races within intelligence (or other determining factor), but not listed as a "Playable" option. This is not a declaration of evil or even hideous appearance. A G.M. may allow some of these as playable races. Races such as Angel-Demon Serpents and Iceborn, both of which are listed as Player Character options if a G.M. allows are included here. This is because they're mentioned as "NPC Villain and Monster" first and foremost. Since that is their primary recommendation, that's how they're found on this list. Note: Grimbor are listed as a Player Character option in Book 7: Yin Sloth Jungles. However, in Monsters & Animals, it's stated they're NOT recommended for Player Characters. Since Monsters & Animals is a Second Edition book while Yin-Sloth Jungles is a First Edition book, I went in favor of the more recent ruling. All Land of the Damned races are found in the Monsters category (or the Animal category that follows). I can find no declaration they're allowed as Player Characters in the text, and I'm leaving personal opinions and bias out of it. This is also why Werebeasts are found in the Monster section.

Animals: Races with "Animal Intelligence" written in their descripion, or otherwise declared an animal. Some of these are real world animals such as Birds, Cats, and Dogs, while others are more fantastical like Devil Diggers and Green Mold. The line between Monster & Animal often blurred, so some judgment calls were made the best I could. Some people may ultimately feel that some races included as Monsters should be Animals or some Animals should be Monsters. While the list may not be perfect, it should at least help point you in the right direction.

Other: Additional categories such as Dragons, Elementals, & Undead. Everything in this category will fall under that one specific title. In most cases, these could all be considered "Monsters," but given individual listings to help people find popular categories (such as ALL the Dragons, or ALL the Undead) with minimal effort.

Note on Editions

Books 4 - 7 are all First (or Revised) Edition books and do not have Second Edition stats. Any races taken from those books will require conversions to use in a Second Edition game.
