Bug Hunters: The Briefing
This will be the information provided to the pilots a couple weeks after their training in piloting the mecha has began…
As you enter the briefing room you first notice two men talking. One is wearing a brown trench coat with a business suit underneath while the other is wearing an air force dress uniform, adorned in medals and ribbons. When the mecha pilots walk into the room and sit down their conversation ends. The man wearing the uniform gets up from his chair and begins to talk…
“I am General Green the Commanding Officer of Area 51 and the head of the Operations the four of you will be performing. The man in the lab coat to my left is the famed geneticist and expert on the Bugs, Dr. Cromwell. He will be the one briefing you on the bugs.”
The commander then sits down while the man in the brown trench coat gets up.
“General I would really prefer that you call them the Cimex, as that is the scientific name they have been given.”
Someone flips the lights off and you hear a projector running as pictures of one of the Bugs appears on the wall. You are a bit caught off guard by the picture, none of you ever seeing a Bug up close before. Its body appears to be covered in a heavy, brownish red heavy armor or exoskeleton that is also covered in tiny spikes. It has four, thin arms each ending with three spiked claws. Its eyes have a greenish tint to them which appear as very smooth, oval orbs, like glass rather than insect-like.
“These are the Cimex, very little is known about these creatures from reports given by the few survivors who have seen these creatures in action. Some abilities of note is that they appear to have the ability to enter machinery at will, sometimes even being able to control it. This allows them to travel large distances through phone lines and power cables.” Cromwell takes a deep breath and continues. “They come in two separate types; one is the ground type who has been nicknamed the Army Ant, which you can see here, while the other is the air type which can be potentially more destructive.”
Dr. Cromwell motions and the picture changes to that of a much thinner version of the bug with a lighter exoskeleton and large, clear wings coming from its back. Its claws are also much longer.
“These types of bugs are much more destructive in the sense that their claws are built specifically for ripping through heavy layers of metal. As well as the fact that not even our pilots are able to avoid the attacks of the Cimex. Besides that though they are very similar to the Army Ants.”
The scientist motions again and the projector turns off and the lights flip back on….
This ends the briefing for the time being and the pilots are allowed to go back to practicing their mecha with a greater, yet still minute, knowledge of what they will soon be facing… |
