Guest Book

A baby lies in a crib on his back. His little arms and legs kick in the air as he giggles. Standing over the crib is a girl about eight years old. She has long black hair and is looking down at the child. Suddenly a flame erupts from her hand. This flame hovers over her hand, crackling and flickering, struggling to stay alive. The baby's eyes go wide as he looks at the flame, the laughter now gone. She smiles at the innocent child and says, "Look, Ele. Look what I can do."

She moves the flame. The struggling fire almost dissipates at the movement, but manages to survive. Her hand moves quickly causing the flame to stretch out and leave a trail where it once was. Very crude designs are made in the air with sky written flames. Little Elegon watches with wonderment in his eyes. His tiny arms and legs kick and flail as he tries to touch the beautiful flames. After a short display she stops the sky writing. The flame in her palm starts to stabilize again. There is the occasional flicker and falter from the fire showing her still inexperience in controlling and maintaining it. As the flame settles she places her other hand over it. She closes her palms. It looks as if she's smothering the fire. Then she opens her palms so both are facing up. The flame which was there bursts into a small explosion with tiny embers raining down like a mini-fireworks display. Elegon laughs and stretches out his baby arms to try and catch one. Before any of the embers can start a fire to endanger her little brother she is sure to extinguish their spark. With a gentle kiss to the forehead she whispers to him, "I have to go now, Ele. Father won't like me being in here. Take care, little brother."

As she leaves the room another voice sounds. This one is louder and masculine. "I thought I told you to stay out of there!"

The sister replies, "But father ..."

"Don't defy me Zira! Just because you go back to the temple in a couple days doesn't mean you don't have to obey me. He is my heir. He must grow up strong. I don't want you poisoning his mind with your nonsense. Fire is something to be feared, not treated like a child's toy."

"But father, Master Ezro says ..."

"Ezro is a fool."

A huge burning hot flame bursts in front. The baby is now a young boy only about five years old. He moves to avoid it. Sweat drips off his brow from the heat. There is fear on the boy's face. His father's voice screams out, "So do you think fire is still a game?!" The boy is almost reduced to tears. "Now what, Elegon? Are you going to stand there and just cry? You don't have time for that!" As another blast comes at him the boy can be heard screaming out in a burning pain.

The scene suddenly switches and there is a young boy about eight years old in a beautiful garden. A dog composed completely of fire walks up to him. Despite being created entirely from fire, the dog looks almost real in design. There is even a bow tied around its neck as if a present. As he notices it, his face lightens up with joy. He looks around the area and soon finds what he's looking for. Standing by the hedges is his sister, Zira.

She is now about sixteen. Quickly he runs up to her and gives her a great big hug. She smiles and hugs him back saying, "I missed you too, Ele. So do you like your birthday present? I learned to make him just for you."

Elegon responds with a child's enthusiasm, "I love it, sister. I just wish ..."

As she sees him start to struggle with the thought she quickly asks, "Would you like to touch it?" Her hope is that the question will ease the burden of what he couldn't say.

Elegon gives her a worried look. "It's fire."

She laughs at the comment. "It's okay, I would never hurt you little brother."

"Promise?"

She smiles, "Promise."

Her smile gives him confidence to try it. His hand stretches out shakily towards it. Before making contact his hands starts trembling badly. It's a hand that has been burned once too often, and perhaps many more times after the once. If it were anyone else but her, he wouldn't even try. Finally the hand makes contact. Instinctively he pulls away immediately after contact. However, after realizing he wasn't burned he returns the hand. The action is still slow, but this time there is more confidence there. When his hand makes contact this time it doesn't pull back. Once he truly comes to terms with the fact he's not going to get burned he starts to smile. The fire dog hops up, its front paws on Elegon's chest, and starts to lick his face. He laughs as the fire tongue tickles. Laughing Elegon comments, "He's warm, but not hot. It feels kind of funny."

Zira watches, pleased to see her little brother so happy. She moves over to the fire pet and starts to pet it. The dog sits at its master's touch. To Elegon she says, "See, fire doesn't always have to hurt. It's all about how you ..."

Before she can finish the thought the fire dog suddenly erupts into a huge pillar of flames. Zira moves back screaming as she's caught in the sudden outburst of intensity. Elegon's eyes go wide with terror. The burning hot flames flicker passed his face.

Elegon sits in a garden with Ezro. He doesn't look much different than now, maybe a few years younger, fifteen at the youngest. Ezro speaks, "Lord Elegon, it is nearly time for you to be leaving us. What do you think you will do then?"

"I want to head home. It's been seven years now."

"Are you sure that is wise? He brought you here to get rid of you, Lord Elegon."

"That's not true! My father is a great man. I'd be lucky to be half the man he is. He just wanted me to get stronger; and I have."

"Would a great man have done that to your sister?"

Elegon turns away with a pained expression on his face. In a weak voice he replies, "You don't know what you're talking about."

Ezro sighs and puts a comforting hand on the shoulder of the noble young man. "I know better than you may think. But I will not bring it up again. I do not wish to cause you anymore pain."

Then there are just flames burning against a black background. Standing in the center of the red hot fire is Elegon. There is something else there though, a strong and powerful presence. Behind him lurks an adult inferno dragon. As it opens its mouth the entire image is consumed.

Angel snaps out the vision, the feeling of the fire still trying to consume her/him. The emergence of the inferno dragon ended the vision. It's hard to tell who the dragon's target was, and what happened to Elegon.
